GOLF SWING OVERHAUL: Learn to Swing Within Your Actual Playing Abilities

This may seem obvious. . . but it's far from it to far too many golfers.  Most golfers want to play and score like the professionals who work at it everyday.  They want to knock the cover off the ball. . . blast it into the clouds.  And few of these golfers score well.  They're always in trouble (off the fairway in the rough, or in a bunker, or in another fairway).
When a professional takes time off from practicing, you’d be astonished at how long it takes them to get back their mojo.  I've known many pro golfers.  Played many rounds with the great Buddy Sullivan. . . among many very good club pros. . . and they struggle mightily to feel right over the golf ball after a layoff of even a week or two.  How often do you play?

Here's my recommendation: DON'T SWING FOR THE FENCES!  Swing within yourself; within your own abilities.  I know lots of golfers who swing very lightly at the ball and score surprisingly well (several of them have learned the 'GOOSE.')  I know a man and wife who play about three times a week - rain or shine (I live in Vancouver, WA, and it rains here a lot).  She consistently outscores him - and he, though playing from the back tees, always out drives her.

She plays within her abilities.  But she plays well while playing within her abilities.  She plans her shots.  She plays within herself to the point where she's perfectly happy to take three shots to get in position to hit her fourth on par 5s.  She never tries to make up for a bad shot.  Never!
"It's a game to me.  Always has been. . . I love it, but if I don't do particularly well on a given hole, or a given round, I don't get upset about it. . . My strength is my putting.  I nail a lot of one putts - especially after I read Mark's articles on putting with my body instead of my arms. . . I'm getting up there (in age). . . Even though we always use a cart, I still get tired on the back nine. . . So, learning to putt more with my body has really helped."
Finally, Tiger Woods has no idea when he will be back on tour.  He has had four surgeries on his left knee.  He's modified his swing several times (which I admire).  He's now in the process of yet another modification, but cannot practice now because of his injuries.  In my opinion, he's won a lot of tournaments through intimidation.  I think he's intimidated the whole tour for about a decade.  But by over-swinging so many times. . . he may have shortened his career by many years.
In SUMMARY: we've all heard or read that we don't have to swing so hard to get distance.  Well, if you strike the ball correctly using the Mongoose Golf Swing technique, you can generate a lot more power with less effort.  Why?  It's a top down swing. . . and our upper bodies when conjoined with a levering technique can apply an enormous force to the golf ball without putting undue stress (I prefer strain) on our knees, hips, and lower back.  With the 'GOOSE' swing, the knees, hips, and lower back, just go along for the ride.  They're completely released BEFORE your club head meets up with the ball.
To verify what I'm saying here. . . please take a look at the DEMO VIDEO.  You'll notice that my trailing leg is completely released.  Thus, the amount of strain or torque on the knees, hips, and lower back, is significantly reduced.  Also, it's much easier on the neck.  Many golfers (including many pros) suffer from neck stress due to over-swinging.

GOLF SWING OVERHAUL: Do NOT Hold Your Head Still!

“Hold your head still” cry the pro instructors.  “Keep it steady.”  “You muffed that shot because you moved your head.”  These guys are telling you the same crap handed down for the last 200 years.  No one has thought this notion of holding your head still during the golf swing all-the-way-through.  If they did - they’d realize you CAN’T hold your head still.  Why?  Because it’s attached to your body and your body is moving.
"This is INSANE!!!"

So, what are they really trying to get you to do?  Keep your eye on the ball.  But watch an ordinary hitter in baseball. . .the ball leaves the pitcher’s hand and as it travels to the plate. . .the hitter keeps his eyes on the ball. . .he doesn’t keep his head still.  In fact, if you kept your head still, you couldn’t hit a baseball for beans.  Try it.  Imagine it.
Now - you CAN hold your body still.  Just look at a mime.  They discipline themselves to remain still for hours.  Amazing.  But put a golf club in their hands and ask them to hold their head still while swinging it and they’ll look at you as if you were just released from the funny farm.
Eyes on ball. . .head moves freely

With the MONGOOSE GOLF SWING - you don’t have to worry about holding your head still because you’re not swaying to one side only to have to sway back over to the other side.  No takeaway, no backswing.  You DO have to think about keeping your eyes on the golf ball.  How else is your brain going to know how to help you hit the bloody thing?
The GOOSE’ is a top down swing.  As little BODY movement as possible is its main advantage.  You’re striking down at the ball and not trying to sweep it or even worse hitting up into it (very hard on the knees, hips, and lower back, because of over-torquing).
One more time: DO NOT TRY TO KEEP YOUR HEAD STILL.  KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE BALL. . .and let your head do whatever it needs to do to achieve that.  A minutes practice with the advise of keeping your eyes on the ball. . .while letting your head be free to move any which way it needs to to accomplish that. . .and, well, you’re going to love the new freedom.
To ORDER the ‘GOOSE’ - simply click on the BUY NOW button in the right column.  Get your own 33 minutes of ARRRR! video tutorial DVD. . .lots of slow motion, which makes it much easier to grasp the elements of the swing. . .lots of explanations.  When you click on the BUY NOW button you’ll be taken to PayPal.  If you DON”T have an account with them. . .no problem. . .you can use their services anyway. . .Simply click on the link “Don’t have a PayPal account” and you’ll be taken to a page where you can fill out the simple form - your credit card info, etc. - and you’re done.  Have a great summer

A NO BULL TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE YOUR ACCURACY and CONSISTENCY QUICK!

More consistency is achieved by getting rid of several parts of the ancient conventional golf swing. . .the one we’ve all been taught.
"Somewhere about. . .here ought to do it."

We stand over the ball. . .take our stance. . .wiggle the club a few times. . .settle in (as it were). . .then slowly (or not so slowly) take the club "AWAY."  Now stop, right there, STOP.  Look at that word: “AWAY.”  Where are we taking the club AWAY to?  Hmm.  We sorta, yeah, that’s the right word, “sorta,” move the club somewhere back there. . .how far back there, hmmm. . .or should it end up over THERE?
"I love my rhythm trainer. . ."

Now. . .we’ve got the club back. . .takeaway results in what we’ve come to call the BACKSWING.  Now what?  Now, we’ve got to get the club and our body over to that spot. . .that exact spot. . .where we can exert the correct force to the ball to get it to that place we imagine it’s going.  To get back to that spot. . .that exact spot. . .where we put force to the golf ball. . .we engage it what they call RHYTHM.  Ah, another part of the ancient conventional swing that puts in play a whole host of problems.
Why does everyone. . .EVERYONE. . .have problems with being consistently in rhythm during a round of golf?  Let’s examine a few things that always happen during every round of golf.  First, we feel a little frisky in the early part of a round and tend to want to kill the ball, right?  We tend to over-swing because we feel strong and want to crush the bloody ball like the pros, right?  “Great drive Frank.”  Frank just hit one 285 right down the middle.  But by the time Frank gets to number 9 or 10, he’s starting to get a little tired. . .tired in the legs. . .maybe he’s starting to tighten up a bit in the lower back. . .we’ve all been there, done that.
So, pretty soon Frank can’t quite get the club face square at impact and the ball goes off to the right (right-handers). . .and he finds himself in the rough.  Or, realizing he’s been a little “late” on the last few shots. . .he over cranks a bit and hooks the ball over to the far left - maybe in the other fairway.  Trees block his second shot.  We’ve all done this, right?  Well, I’ve eliminated the takeaway and the whole concept of rhythm.
In the ‘GOOSE’ Tutorial, you’ll see me simply lift the club into position. . .and stay there if necessary.  I can stay there indefinitely.  At 76 I might cramp up, ha, ha, but I’m trying to make the point that you no longer have to even think about “staying in rhythm so as to execute the shot correctly.”  The  ‘GOOSE’ is a top-down swing. . .and there is NO takeaway. . .so there’s NO challenge to find your way back to the ball.  When you lift the club, you’re in position to apply force. . .right then. . .right there. . .And you’ve hardly moved at all.
As you can “see” from this explanation, when you get rid of what I call the “sway and swat” problems, you can’t help but begin to be much more consistent.  The radical elements. . .the takeaway and rhythm are gone.  And once the main radical elements are gone, your brain no longer has to cope with them. . .You’ll find yourself much more engaged in the actual shot. . .and not how to carry it off.

DRIVING TOO FAST IN THE SLOW LANE - SMASH UP IMMINENT! SLOW DOWN!

I received two testimonials today, 16 June 2011. . .and have posted them under TESTIMONIALS in the left column.  Read them. . .they might answer some of your questions about this new golf swing.

DRIVING TOO FAST IN THE SLOW LANE
There’s an old story. . .a Zen story. . .about a young man who passionately wanted to become a master swordsman.  He meets a master swordsman who takes him in.  Only they don’t start out learning anything about sword fighting.  The master puts him in the garden.
Every time the student isn’t looking, the master sneaks up behind him and whacks him with a stick.  THWACK!  The student becomes more and more frustrated.  This goes on for two, three, years.  He can’t seem to build up any sense of when he’s going to get whacked.  He’s got bruises all over his body.  Sounds cruel.
Well, one day he’s in the midst of planting some vegetables. . .and he suddenly becomes fully aware of the master sneaking up on him. . .he waits. . .he can even hear the stick start to move toward his back. . .he ducks. . .and becomes enormously excited.  He’s simply overjoyed.  He starts leaping around and yelling at the master, “Now, will you teach me swordsmanship?”
“Now, you don’t need swordsmanship,” said the master.  The student had slowed down enough to finally recognize what he was doing there in the first place.  He could now hear and feel what was going on around him.
SLOWING DOWN SO OUR BRAINS CAN CATCH UP
In this electronic age. . .we can’t get things to move fast enough.  We keep upgrading our computers with faster and faster drives. . .we want our cars to go faster. . .we eat as if someone is going to come and take the food away from us.  “You have 5 minutes to eat the steak and get to the TV.”
The Mongoose Golf Swing is not hard to learn.  I know, I know, you’ve heard that one before.  But it isn’t.  On the other hand, it will take some time to learn the basics of a new golf swing.  If you read the testimonials I mention above. . .you’ll note that the people are anxious to do better. . .so they push to get it down NOW!  Well, that’s not going to happen.  On the other hand, you’re not going to be in the garden for years.

I have people who bought the DVD tutorial and moved along slower. . .who have consistently cut their handicap by more than 15 strokes.  One man had a 26 handicap.  He’d played for years between a 12 and 14.  Suddenly, he found himself in his 60s and everything started to go bad.  He bought the ARRRR! tutorial and in less than four months had his handicap down to 16.  He now has it down to 12-14, and he’s 66 years old.  That means he breaks 80 quite a few times.  I promise you, if you’ve never broken 80, that is a wonderful feeling.
Have a great summer.

DISTANCE WITH LESS EFFORT - A NEW SWING

If you learn the Mongoose Golf Swing, you’ll begin hitting the golf ball farther with less effort.  This is not advertising hype.  Recently, Paul Azinger, a tour professional for decades, wrote this: "There are two kinds of strength.  There is the kind that you can pick up the back of a Volkswagen, which is slow, bulky strength.  There is elastic strength, which golfers have.  And when you swing, you create energy and that puts a tremendous amount of strain on your hips, legs, back, shoulders and knees.  On the downswing, you can't slow down.  If you do that, you mangle your golf swing."

And that’s the whole thing, isn’t it?  The conventional golf swing, the one we’re all taught. . .do this, do that. . .then this, then that. . .and end up up here, right?  I watch the pros and almost to a man - they can’t seem to swing hard enough.  The play one or two tournaments. . .then disappear.  What happened to such and such?  “Oh, his back gave out on him.”  How old is that kid?  “I think he’s 26.”  Hmm.
Jack Nicklaus recently said, "My swing never caused an injury for me.  I think Tiger's swing, and I think a lot of swings of today, are far more violent."
Fred Couples, who has had a bad back for much of his career. . .constantly visiting the chiropractor. . .reflecting on being No. 1 and trying to stay there. . .”In golf, when you’re No. 1 and then you start to slide. . .and your mind keeps telling you, man, I remember a year ago I could do this, and then two years ago I did that; that's the toughest thing to go through.  There's no other guy who can pick you up but yourself."
To hit the ball farther, the equipment manufacturers have turned to computers, to high tech materials (titanium, for example), 3D imaging, to offer up equipment that encourages smashing the golf ball.  This has made golf course designers lengthen courses.  Will this trend end with 10,000 foot courses?  No one seems to know.
"If you have multiple injuries like Tiger has with the knee and the Achilles, you want to take a look at what is causing those issues.  Is it movement in the swing?  Is it something where the hips aren't moving enough?"
I say emphatically that the conventional golf swing is the culprit. . .that equipment manufacturers are exacerbating the problem.  Having spent years working on the Mongoose Golf Swing, an upper body swing that completely eliminates the infamous takeaway. . .I have people all over the world who had just about given up. . .some with back or hip or knee (or all of the above) problems. . .some who have aged to a point where the conventional golf swing just becomes impossible. . .some who see the logic in what I’ve developed. . .and are back enjoying the game again.
To ORDER the ‘GOOSE’ simply click on the BUY NOW button in the right column.  Get the 33 minutes of ARRRR! video tutorial. . .lots of slow motion. . .lots of repetition (which makes it much easier to learn the swing). . .lots of clear explanation.  You’ll be taken to PayPal.  If you have an account, fine.  If not, you can still ORDER there.  Simply click on the link “Don’t have a PayPal account”. . .If you have any problems, send me an email and I’ll take you through the process step by step.  Have a great summer!

CHIPPING. . .FORGET! THE OLD 1/3, 2/3, RULE

Most golfers who can chip at all. . .use the old land the ball 1/3 of the total distance of the chip to the hole, and let it run 2/3 of the total distance of the chip.  That the way you think about the chip shot?
Over the years I’ve watched thousands of golfers - including most pros - try to put this “rule” to work.  The results are almost always unpredictable.  The really good chippers on tour practice for hours to “feel the shot.”
My approach is different. . .and I’ve had nothing but good results for decades.
If your ball is off the green you can still use my method for chipping - if you’ve got a fairly flat lie.  NEVER use a lofted club unless you're chipping out of a bunker or in grass up to here.  Most people hit under the ball with every lofted club in their bag. . .and leave it short.  Sound familiar?

I’m assuming you’re using my Mongoose Golf Swing. . .which features a grip with the hands completely separated. . .no fingers touching the other hand. . .hands apart. . . take a 4 iron and grip down with your right hand (if you’re right-handed) where you thumb and forefinger are past the grip and you can feel the steel or metal of the club at the end of the grip material.    It will feel as if you're pinching the metal and grip material at the same time.  The idea is to feel the shot through the metal shaft.  In time, you'll begin to do this for many shots.  Getting closer to the club head with your hand produces a totally new feel. . .for any shot. . .but particularly the chip and putt.
Your left hand is acting like a toggle joint at the end of the club.  And you’re going to strike the ball. . .placed back in your stance. . .as if you’re using a long putter (which is the only putter to use if you want to learn to putt with your body, which has significantly more “feel” than your hands and arms and shoulders).  Your left hand will be leading. . .right hand low and striking down on the back of the ball. . .
Your thought while over such a shot. . .HIT IT HARD ENOUGH TO MAKE IT GO 10 FEET PAST THE HOLE.  What!!!  EVERYONE. . .and I mean EVERYONE. . .from rank amateurs to the most seasoned professionals. . .LEAVE MOST SHOTS SHORT.
But if you strike the ball to hit it 10 feet PAST the hole. . .you’ll make some you don’t deserve. . .and you’ll rarely be short.  What would you rather the result be. . .being 10 feet past the hole or 10 feet short?  If you're 10 feet short you have zero chance of making anything!
If you keep this up, . .you’ll start to get a totally different result from your chipping.  You'll rarely be short and you'll rarely have more than a short come-backer for a putt.  The number of 3 putts on your card will go down dramatically.
To ORDER the ‘GOOSE’ - simply click on the BUY NOW button in the right column.  You’ll get 33 minutes of ARRR!  (read the details about how to order via PayPal - with our without a PayPal account).  If you love the silly game. . .but want much better results. . .ORDER the ‘Goose’ video tutorial.  Lots of slow motion. . .which helps you learn the mechanics.  It’s not hard to learn this swing technique.
